Vinyl TV
Добавлен 19 дек 2014
In the last few years, vinyl records have made a huge comeback. For many reasons, people young and older have started collecting them again and enjoying the vintage sound they offer. I am one of those people. This channel is dedicated to vinyl, and it is my goal to be a participant in the Vinyl Community here on RUclips. Us vinyl fans believe that the move away from records was a mistake, and that nothing compares to the worm, non-digital sound of a good piece of vinyl. It's sort of like sitting in front of a fire instead of an electric heater. Any vinyl fans will know exactly what I mean. Vinyl is Final!
Analog VS Digital... Again!
This is a different perspective of how to compare vinyl to digital. Instead of saying one is better than the other, I explore some facts about both.

Some of you asked some very good questions a while ago. Let's dig into them.
Radio Show Reruns and Reckids

First things first: Radio show will run Saturdays starting at 6AM and will repeat all day. There will be two shows, two hours each back to back. Go to vaughn.live/craigtube to listen. If using the phone app (Vaughn Live), go to top left and hit the little squares. Choose "Music Cafe" on the left. I'll be in there somewhere. No need to have an account. You will see the screen with a pic of me an...

Reverb is a crucial part of music production. It adds space, ambiance, and musicality to instruments and voices. It used to be hard to achieve, but technology made it easy, and very affordable. A-Ha - Vinyl Needle drop - The Sun Always Shines On TV
Просмотров 13 тыс.3 года назад
"The Sun Always Shines on T.V." is a song by Norwegian pop rock band A-ha. The song was written by guitarist Pål Waaktaar. It was released as the third single from their debut studio album Hunting High and Low (1985). This is a very clean copy on Vinyl, using my Fluance RT-81 Turntable and an AT440mla cartridge.
Dj'ing with vinyl - Old School and New
Просмотров 20 тыс.3 года назад
The term Disk Jokey has taken on a different meaning as of recently. Old school guys like me just wanted to spin hit songs on the radio. New age DJ's are ramping it up with beat matching and effects. Let's talk about how they use fancy turntables to do what they do, or did before digital. We'll also throw in some vintage back cuing techniques.
Recording Songs on Only 4 Tracks
Просмотров 16 тыс.4 года назад
When a musician wants to record a song they wrote, but they can't afford a studio, what do they do? Buy a 4 track! Considering that most popular music was and is recorded on at least 24 tracks, or more, 4 tracks is quite limited. In this video, we'll talk about what tracks are, why more it better, and how one might get by only using 4 tracks. Some tunes of mine: soundcloud.com/user-551461074 Cr...
Tape Bias - What Is It?
Просмотров 57 тыс.4 года назад
This video talks about the technology that allowed us to use tape to record audio. Without "bias", we would have had much trouble getting tape recordings to sound good. Many are familiar with bias because they used cassette decks to record their records, and there were buttons that changed the bias, depending on what kind of tape was being used. It's not very understood by most people, so I dec...
Vinyl TV Update - I'm still here

This is just an update and an introduction to my next video about tape bias. That's that thing we've all seen (if you are old enough to have used cassettes) on the front on a cassette deck. Type I, Type II CrO2, metal, etc.
Why is Groove Spacing Important?
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 года назад
Groove pitch is important because it helps fit more music on a record. This video teaches how it's done, and what determines the space between the grooves.

Most albums of the last 40 years were recorded digitally and then converted to analogue
Helped me out a lot, all the other quick how to videos aren’t the way… this guy is the way
Cheers for such a clear and informative video bud!
When do we adjust the height of the arm?
😮
We older guys have found other issues from experience. The storage and moving your residence is the bigger problem. Ona big reliable portable hard drive you can store and MOVE A CLOSET FULL of analogue recording. Storage is expensive.
Perhaps a better way is to be realistic. There are several compromises because recording is linear and playback is circular.
Just found the channel. Lot of good stuff. However that glass of wine sittng there next to his audio equipment and his hands flailing away as he is talking just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
Amazingly explained! Just bought my first ever turntable and cannot wait to use your knowledge in setting it up correctly. Thank you so much!
BEST tutorial hands down thank you 🙌
Man, all of these "Audiophile" people are ridiculous. There's barely any difference at all. I have the same turntable and it sounds no different than a $1,000 high end turntable. You're ears are deceiving you, buddy! The only thing that matters is that the needle doesn't skipor get stuck...NOW THAT'S AN ANNOYING ASS PROBLEM RIGHT THERE!
I've had my Technics SL B21 since the mid 80's. After a long hiatus I am bringing my sound system out of retirement, as I am transitioning into retirement myself. I'd like to echo the sentiments of others in saying, this is the best explanation I've seen to demystifying the setting of those dials, to get the tracking right. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you.
I just liten to my 'vinyl records' on Spotify Premium, cassette tapes are another thing, it is like Cassette Deck - Laptop AUX - Audacity
EVERY SCRATCH IS A MEMORY OF A PUNK/ROCK PARTY I HAD.
Great video, thank you. Nice explanation of this. Would love to go back to when I was young and Chrome and Metal tapes were readily available and grab half a dozen of each :)
This is great, I've never changed a cartridge in my life and will obviously need to do so at some point in time regardless of how much I like the one I have haha also one never knows when they might find a new turntable that they like or want to build a second setup for a second room of the house so yeah very nice video.
this is the best setup video. no bullshit, straight to the point. I am very happy about the result. sound quality highly improved after properly setting up my system. Thank you
If your pickup arm has pin into cup bearings and they are loose, then the record will sound crap. If it is too tight a different type of crap. The same type of logic can be applied for most bearing systems where pickup arms resonate trying both to support the cartridge and allow movement over the record without friction bending the cartridges cantilever. You can get good performance from a well set up basic arm. The deck does two things, it provides support for the platter and drive mechanism. It also holds the pickup arm in an accurate and vibration free position. This implies a rigidly engineered structure connecting the pickup arm and the platters bearings. The bearings themselves must hold the platter to very tight tolerances. The deck must not act as a mechanical signal source to the cartridge. The only mechanical drive for the cartridge should come from the vinyl. I can see this in simple decks such as Rega, but I scratch my head with a lot of the electronic controlled decks in particular.
I’ve got over a thousand records, 600 cds, a hundred or so cassettes, and a bluesound node to stream. I have never told anyone that vinyl sounds better. I get a kick out of just how good these antiquated formats can sound compared to a good stream and have fun listening to all formats. I compare listening to a record to something like the tea ceremony. Interesting that you mention 320. That was my personal cut off. Anything lower than that and it did sound bad to me. The absolute best sounding stuff for me is a good file on TIDAL steamed through my blusound node. Let’s not mention MQA.
Very educational. I never knew this.
Thanks for your clear insight. Much appreciated and i am going to improve my system with your info
THANK YOU AGAIN!!! :D
What a wonderful and great explanation. Very clear to understand this particular issue in an easy way ti understand. Just GREAT.
What a brilliant video. Thanks soooooo much. I didn’t have a clue about this stuff before I watched this video. Changed my cartridge yesterday having bought a pressure gauge and a cheapie but beautiful template from Amazon. Spent time setting it up. You’re right don’t trust the manufacturer. Do it properly. The sound difference is just brilliant. Thanks so much.
You made some great points and know audio very well. But you got 2 things incorrect. Record companies DID make reel to reel tapes of some popular bands, and you COULD buy those reel to reel tapes. Not many were made, but some were. Secondly, assuming a normal bias cassette, the noise floor of it without any noise reduction IS actually higher than any album. Purely engineering stats there. Indeed, at the time it happened, it was the COMBINATION of Dolby B.... AND the new formulation of chrome.... which took the lowly cassette in TO the hifi realm. It gave cassettes the dynamic range of LPs.
That table from first glance looks just like a 1200
THANK YOU!!! My simple Pioneer PL-6 never sounded better before ^^
This is the only video that matters for setting up a proper turntable all the other channels are a complete joke especially vinyl eyes
no, i would digitize LPs to CD, but not record on a cassette ...
Thank you very much for sharing your acknowledge of recording on 4 tracks and vcr, you are a great person and very gifted musician thanks God for give your talent God bless you more
What if i have a brush cover on my cartridge do i have to take it off to do the alignment?
Just received some lathe cut vinyl of our new single and when the breakdown happens and the fuzz and organ climax two of the grooves are so close together! This has resulted in some of the discs having skipping and sticking issues. So gutted. Majority are fine but 10% have a visible merging of the groove areas. Searched on RUclips and this came up so will forward it to my cutting engineer.
i have used this video to set up 3 cartridges over the years. The best instructions no need for any others
That's a cool shirt! Where did you buy it? 😊
This is easy to answer. LP if you have the money. CD if you have a decent set-up. Cassette can sound surprisingly good, if your player ain't the worst deck out there. It wasn't so rosy with cassettes back in the 80's and 90's that they should go for the exactly same price as CDs, as they do these days. Underground black metal cassettes are a different matter and they cost as much as all the cassettes should cost. But even cassette is a fad these days. LPs are ridicously overpriced, hopefully the hype will crash and burn.
You just helped me out big-time with this video.Seriously, thanks!🗽🛸📼
Great that you are back
Just updated my technics Sl-B202 turntable. New cables and had to put a new belt on it. Just installed a Ortofon 2m Red. What a beautiful sound. Antique Sound Labs AQ-1001DT with Fosi Audio preamp feeding my Meadowlark Kestrels. Everything just works together perfectly. I love listening to great music... unlike what I find with many "audiophiles" that want to listen to "issues" with their systems.
Thank you for your video it was very useful..greetings from Libya.
Thank you, sir
I love hifi but there is so much BS written about in the dedicated magazines and some of the phraseology they come out with is total fantasy. They must sit around all day dreaming up pretentious garbage. Just saying 😂😂😳 ,
This was brilliantly explained! - Great job, thank you.
Absolutely fantastic video. You are a great teacher. Wish I had seen this 30 years ago. Thanks so much for making this easily understood!
Good point about the placebo effect. Qualitywise listening to analog or digital it comes down to if it's good enough. Analog has what I call the "gadget factor" - turntables leading the way with reel-to-reels close behind. Digital is convenient.
70 year old brit just back into vinyl what a guy down to earth not pushing us stuff you say it as it is keep making these videos
Just ordered this TT; very excited to see if it can re-kindle what was once a very important part of my life: listening to my collection of 1000+ LPs.
Thriller is an analogue recording. The SPARS code is AAA. Saludos from Bahía Blanca, Argentina!
18:00 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have followed this tutorial for years now. Since I do not need to change carts often, but every few years I do, and this is a video I have saved and always go back to. It has helped all the carts I have bought be the best they can, and sound. I want to say thank you for this video that is easy to follow, understand for everyone, and making it not about you need this, or that you need to get something expensive to get the job done. The only thing I would say you should buy is the digital scale, just like in the video. This could be bought in a kit for $25 (scale, alignment protractor, scale gauge block). Very happy that this video has been seen as much as it has. It shows how many people appreciate the video, and how many people have gotten into vinyl records/turntables.
